The mission of the Florida Outreach Center for the Blind, Inc. (FOCB) is to develop and administer programs that will integrate blind and visually-impaired persons into the social, economic, and spiritual lives of their community.
The Center offers training in Braille, assisted technology, independent living skills and orientation and mobility. In addition to these classes, FOCB offers a Peer Support Group, a Vision-Hearing Support Group, a Senior Outreach Program, and a Kids’ Club for blind children and their families. For our clients’ convenience, the Center has an onsite store that offers a variety of visual aids for hands-on inspection and purchase, an Equipment Loan Program that enables clients to access adaptive technology that they otherwise could not afford, and a reading center with accessible books. Certified by the National Accreditation Council for the Blind and Low Vision Services, FOCB is uniquely qualified to meet the needs of the blind community because its director and core staff members are visually impaired. The Center’s programs are free to all ages and offered in English, Spanish, French and Creole.
