Q. May I use my donation to buy event tickets, museum memberships, or other things that provide me a benefit?

No, donations may not be used to pay for anything that might be perceived as a material benefit to the donor, advisor or other disqualified person - including dinner tickets, membership fees, golf fees, admission tickets or other gifts.

Q. Is there a fee charged for the online credit card gifts?

There is a small gift processing fee associated with the total funds raised, which is standard for the industry. This fee, which is charged by the online payment vendor and credit card processing company will be deducted from each contribution. The full amount of the donation, prior to any fees being deducted, will be eligible for bonus dollars.

Credit card processing fees will be a total of 6% + $0.30 per transaction and will be retained by the credit card companies, GiveGab and Great Give partner hosts. The complete breakdown is as follows:

  • 2% GiveGab service charge for building and maintaining a highly secure hosting site. This covers the building and maintenance of the website, live event customer service, donation processing, and other resources.
  • 2.2% + $.30 credit card charges on all transactions. These are standard charges for each credit card company for donations made online.
  • 1.8% service charge to Great Give partner hosts to cover the management costs, year-round event planning, free nonprofit trainings, and nonprofit support services.

Donors are given the option to cover the fees, and if the donor choose this option, 100% of their online charitable gift will go to the receiving organization.

Q. What if I can't find my favorite nonprofit on the website?

If you can't find them on the site, they may not be participating in the event this year. After the event, please encourage the nonprofit to contact us so we can be sure they are ready for next year.

Q. Do I need to create an account with GiveGab to donate?

No. You do not need to create an account to make a donation. The benefits of creating an account include having your tax receipts collected in one location, being able to track your donations, follow the charities you support, and engage in future volunteering and donations. Your tax receipt is emailed immediately upon processing your donation. To claim a donation as a deduction on U.S. taxes, you should retain the donation receipt as an official record.

Nonprofits

Q. What organizations are eligible for Great Give Palm Beach & Martin Counties?

Organizations must have a current 501(c)(3) status and providing direct services in Palm Beach and/or Martin Counties. Organizations must also be eligible to solicit funds in the state of Florida and Patriot Act compliant.

Q. What is state charitable solicitation registration?

Nonprofits are held to a high standard of government regulation and public scrutiny. And that is with good reason! Eligible 501(c) nonprofits are exempt from federal corporate taxes and have access to public funding. These benefits are not typically available to for-profit businesses, so laws are in place to protect the public and ensure nonprofits do not abuse their financial advantages. The IRS and states all have requirements for nonprofits.

Q. How will the bonus dollars work?

Participating nonprofits will receive a percentage of the bonus pool money based on the amount the organization raises on that day. For example, if "ABC Nonprofit" raises 8% of the total dollars donated, "ABC Nonprofit" will receive 8% of the bonus pool. Only single gifts up to $5,000 will count towards the bonus. For any single gift greater than $5,000, only the first $5,000 will count towards the bonus funds. Offline donations will not count towards bonus pool dollars.

The bonus pool will consist of local dollars raised by United Way of Palm Beach County. The more money a nonprofit raises....the more bonus money they will receive. The United Way of Palm Beach County will issue one check or transfer to every participating nonprofit after the conclusion of the Great Give Palm Beach & Martin Counties that includes all donations (excluding offline donations), bonus pool money and any prizes won.

Q. When does nonprofit registration close?

Nonprofit registration closes on April 1, 2018.
