About the Event


Q. What is Great Give Palm Beach & Martin Counties?

An online giving event that provides nonprofits the opportunity to gain exposure to -- and start relationships with -- new donors, and for people in our region to come together to raise as much money as possible for local nonprofits.


Q. When is it?

April 24 from midnight - midnight.


Q. Who are the Host Partners?

The United Way of Palm Beach County and the United Way of Martin County. The United Way of Palm Beach County is serving as the fiscal agent on behalf of the Host Partners.


Q. What is GiveGab?

GiveGab is a nonprofit giving platform that helps nonprofits to raise money, engage donors and manage volunteers quickly and efficiently. GiveGab offers a full portfolio of simple and easy to use products that allows organizations to function in a more streamlined manner.

Q. Who can donate?

Anyone with a credit card and access to the internet. You can also make a credit card donation by phone by calling 1-844-GIVE-DAY (1-844-448-3329).


Q. What is a "unique donor"?

For the purposes of awarding prizes, a unique donor is one individual or corporation/business and identified by unique email address. Multiple donations from one donor to the same nonprofit will count as one gift. Organizations cannot donate to themselves.


Q. Who will receive my contact information?

The organization(s) you choose to support will have access to your name, email address, and mailing address. This information is used solely to send thank you messages, provide the option to receive future notifications, and to notify you of future activities.


Q. What forms of donations are accepted?

MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express donations will be accepted through the website during Great Give Palm Beach and Martin Counties. Offline donations will count towards leaderboards.

Q. Can I make donations via a mobile device?

Yes! Simply visit greatgiveflorida.org on your mobile device.


Q. Is my donation tax-deductible? Will I receive a receipt for tax purposes

Donations through the Great Give Palm Beach and Martin Counties online portal to charitable nonprofit organizations are tax-deductible and cannot be refunded. Contributions may be made via credit and debit card and through ACH withdrawal from a valid checking account. Donations will be received and receipted by GiveGab.


Q. Is there a minimum gift?

Yes, there is a minimum donation of $5.


Q. May I pay a pledge with my gift?

Since the Great Give Palm Beach & Martin Counties is designed to generate new support, we are unable to accept gifts to pay off existing pledges.


Q. May I designate how a nonprofit uses my gift?

All donations made during the Great Give Palm Beach & Martin Counties are considered unrestricted gifts to the nonprofit, other than they must be used for the benefit of Palm Beach and/or Martin Counties. However, you may express your desire that your gift be used for a specific program or project (in the message field of the giving form).


Q. May I use my donation to buy event tickets, museum memberships, or other things that provide me a benefit?

No, donations may not be used to pay for anything that might be perceived as a material benefit to the donor, advisor or other disqualified person - including dinner tickets, membership fees, golf fees, admission tickets or other gifts.


Q. Is there a fee charged for the online credit card gifts?

There is a small gift processing fee associated with the total funds raised, which is standard for the industry. This fee, which is charged by the online payment vendor and credit card processing company will be deducted from each contribution.

Credit card processing fees will be a total of 6% + $0.30 per transaction and will be retained by the credit card companies, GiveGab and Great Give partner hosts. The complete breakdown is as follows:

  • 2% GiveGab service charge for building and maintaining a highly secure hosting site. This covers the building and maintenance of the website, live event customer service, donation processing, and other resources.
  • 2.2% + $.30 credit card charges on all transactions. These are standard charges for each credit card company for donations made online.
  • 1.8% service charge to Great Give partner hosts to cover the management costs, year-round event planning, nonprofit trainings, and nonprofit support services.

For donations over $250, donors will have the option of pay through ACH bank transfer. The fees associated are as follows:

  • 2% GiveGab service charge for building and maintaining a highly secure hosting site. This covers the building and maintenance of the website, live event customer service, donation processing, and other resources.
  • 1.8% service charge to Great Give partner hosts to cover the management costs, year-round event planning, nonprofit trainings, and nonprofit support services.
  • $0.50 ACH transfer fee

Donors are given the option to cover the fees, and if the donor choose this option, 100% of their online charitable gift will go to the receiving organization.


Q. What if I can't find my favorite nonprofit on the website?

If you can't find them on the site, they may not be participating in the event this year. After the event, please encourage the nonprofit to contact us so we can be sure they are ready for next year.


Q. Do I need to create an account with GiveGab to donate?

No. You do not need to create an account to make a donation. The benefits of creating an account include having your tax receipts collected in one location, being able to track your donations, follow the charities you support, and engage in future volunteering and donations. Your tax receipt is emailed immediately upon processing your donation. To claim a donation as a deduction on U.S. taxes, you should retain the donation receipt as an official record.


Nonprofits


Q. What organizations are eligible for Great Give Palm Beach & Martin Counties?

Organizations must have a current 501(c)(3) status and providing direct services in Palm Beach and/or Martin Counties. Organizations must also be eligible to solicit funds in the state of Florida and Patriot Act compliant.


Q. What is state charitable solicitation registration?

Nonprofits are held to a high standard of government regulation and public scrutiny. And that is with good reason! Eligible 501(c) nonprofits are exempt from federal corporate taxes and have access to public funding. These benefits are not typically available to for-profit businesses, so laws are in place to protect the public and ensure nonprofits do not abuse their financial advantages. The IRS and states all have requirements for nonprofits.


Q. When does nonprofit registration close?

Nonprofit registration closes on April 17, 2019.

Q. What are Matching Minutes?

This year, Great Give Palm Beach and Martin Counties will be implementing Matching Minutes. Matching Minutes help your dollars go further to support your favorite nonprofits by doubling your donation during these pre-set times: 10:24 A.M., 2:24 P.M., 4:24 P.M., 10:24 P.M.; Matching Minute dollars will be awarded to gifts received during these specified times.

Each Matching Minute has a pool of $10,000. This will be a dollar-for-dollar match on every gift up to $100 until the $10,000 runs out. Once that amount is exhausted, the matching opportunity is over. Matching Minute dollars will be distributed on a first come, first served basis, according to the corresponding time stamp on the gift transaction.

Gifts made during Matching Minutes are also eligible for prizes. Matching Minute dollars do not count as prize dollars. For more information, visit our Prizes page.
