The mission of Urban Growers CEDC/Henrietta Bridge Farm Project is to create a thoughtful and productive community of youth and adults from diverse backgrounds who work together to build a sustainable food system. The UG/Henrietta Bridge Farm Project produces healthy food for residents of the city, provides youth leadership opportunities, and inspires and supports others to create change in their own communities. We will operate, promote and demonstrate the use of organic agriculture as a vehicle for job training, employment and community development.
We grow food for distribution to 3 underserved communities that are primarily comprised of low income, racial minority groups. We established a DoubleUP SNAP Program whereby users can receive $20 worth of produce for $10 on their EBT Card. For those who volunteer to work on the farm, a family food basket is provided. In the event that there is surplus produce, it is donated to the women's shelter next door to the farm and to food banks operated by local churches....of which there are many. We teach basic backyard gardening skills and we have dedicated several 9’X5’ plots for use by community residents. We also sponsor field trips for students to come to the farm so they can learn firsthand that "Tomatoes Are Not Grown at Publix Supermarkets". We have Senior Gardening Workshops where our older citizens can come to the farm and enjoy a few hours in the garden or just relaxing in a quiet, safe environment
